About Us

SulaFest is India’s biggest vineyard music festival, to be held on 1st & 2nd February, 2020. We fill up the weekend with new and interesting music from across the globe, delectable wines, gourmet food and merchandise from some of the loveliest brands.
If all this sounds good already, wait until you hear where SulaFest takes place. Set in Sula’s vineyards in Nashik – the wine capital of India – our festival is propped against the backdrop of rolling hills and surrounded by the calm of the Gangapur lake.

At SulaFest 2020, we celebrate our 13th year as a festival and this year we’re going all out a.k.a throwing in some mega surprises for you and your crew. To celebrate, we have a list of wine experiences to pick from, grape stomping to get knee-deep into, wine master classes and more! But we aren’t just stopping there. We are a music festival after all, and this year we’ve got a host of national and international bands and artists bringing their magic to the main stage. While you’re here, we’ll let you in on a little secret. Headlining SulaFest 2020 is British-band Hot Chip, who will be playing in India for the first time!

SALIM - SULAIMAN

Salim and Sulaiman Merchant are no newbies to the Indian music industry and are among the country’s most respected composers. Their music incorporates cinematic, folk, electronica and Sufi influences. Over the years they have scored more than 100 films including Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Fashion, Band Baaja Baraat, Aaja Nachle, Kurbaan and more, close to 20 TV shows, several records and have been composed soundtracks for musicals like ‘Merchants of Bollywood’ and ‘Beyond Bollywood’.

They have enthralled audiences across the world with their live concerts including performing at the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup in 2010. The brothers have also been judges on several reality TV shows, including the extremely popular ‘Indian Idol’. In addition to their other accolades, they also hold esteemed awards from Filmfare, Zee Cine Awards, IIFA, Screen awards and of course, the Best Music award for the film Fashion awarded to them at New York’s Syracuse International Film Festival.

MY BABY

For those of you not yet familiar with the Dutch-New Zealand trio, they play roots driven hypnotic dance. It’s a sound informed by gospel and blues singing and playing fused with ancient folk melodies. Added to that is the rawness of seventies funk, African desert blues, Moroccan gnawa, Indian raga and a touch of EDM all played live on guitars and drums. They have been spreading their psychedelic blues-trance rave to the approval of audiences worldwide since 2012, featuring on renowned festivals such as Glastonbury (UK), Isle of Wight (UK), Sziget (HU), Fusion (DE), Exit (RS), Lowlands (NL) and Pinkpop (NL).

Their fourth album ‘MOUNAIKI - By The Bright of Night’ was rewarded with a prestigious Edison Award 2019 (Dutch Grammy) for ‘Best Alternative Album’. They are also the first Dutch act ever to play the mainstage of Isle of Wight festival.

DoctorDru

Doctor Dru is one of the key proponents of the contemporary house movement. He has a rich, multi-layered history, which permeates into his present output – DJing, working as a drummer, running his own label JEUDI Records, composing for other acts and, of course, producing his own emotive, wistful signature tracks that have cemented his reputation as a purveyor of the finest in house music.

Years of deep musical knowledge are reinterpreted into his electronic productions, fuelled by his dedication to beats, rhythms and melodies, which began long before his first eighties records got their groove going on. Doctor Dru’s devout love of electronic music combined with his years of experience and will to roll out the very best tunes full of substance and dance floor appeal are the key elements that form the foundation of his career. The constant aim: simply to stimulate both body and mind through his love for synthesisers!

Electrophazz

Think soul. Think Jazz. Think hip-hop. Think Poetry. That's Electrophazz for you. Inspired by a wide range of artists like Roy Hargrove, Robert Grasper, The Roots, Common, Erykah Badu and Jamiroquai, Electrophazz's sounds are a unique take on Neo Soul, stemming from African-American culture and infused with a big dollop of French glamour. This six-person, young band from Lyon have a shared passion and an energy that makes you move and puts a smile on your face.

With two albums under their belt, Electrophazz, driven by pianist and lead composer David Marion released a five track EP in 2014 titled Shades Of Your Soul, which poetically explores an array of human emotions such as grief, love and resilience. The balance of a masterfully coordinated rhythm section complimented by the silky smooth sound of saxophones harbours the perfect platform for the talented Celia Kameni and Thaïs Lopes de Pina to express themselves in immaculate harmony. From the subtle use of opportune samples to rapper Keven Smithʼs sharp flow and pampered lyrics, all the elements are gathered to provide a mesmerising and heartwarming show.

Hot Chip

Formed in London in 2000, Hot Chip are an English synth-pop band consisting of Alexis Taylor, Joe Goddard, Al Doyle, Owen Clarke and Felix Martin. They are also commonly joined by Rob Smoughton and Sarah Jones. What started off as a bedroom recording project has turned into one of the most well-known bands of the generation. Over the years, their music has been nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize and a Grammy and more.

The band primarily produces music in the synth-pop and alternative dance genres, drawing influences from house and disco.

Kohra

Kohra is a versatile and forward-thinking DJ/ producer from India. He expresses his visual and aural sensibilities via Qilla Records which he set up in 2011 to promote a wide range of underground music from India and across the world.

Kohra has played at some of the biggest festivals in the country like EDC, ADE, Awakenings (India) and at various venues in Australia, UAE, Thailand and Mauritius. He’s shared stage with many iconic artists like Pete Tong, Deadmau5, Dubfire, Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing, Josh Wink, Patrice Baumel, Joseph Capriati and Oliver Huntemann over the last decade as one of India’s leading dance music artists.

BADDRA

Baddra is a Turkish flow artist, fire dancer and stage performer. She has performed as a member of Dragone Entertainment Group for the last few years, under the famous Land of Legends show of famous Franco Dragone – director/founder of Cirque du Soleil Soleil, La Perle, House of Dancing Water and countless spectacular shows around the world.

Baddra means 'a piece of moon' that illuminates the night and symbolises life itself. Her shows enchant the audience by creating an atmosphere of magical art, using fire as her weapon, and flows gracefully into the shades of the night creating the illusion of fire dancing. Employing techniques such as fire hooping, fire bowl, double staff, fans and poi with creative expression she achieves a higher state of present-moment awareness that will lead you into a trance.

Anjali Doshi a.k.a. Ashes is an Indian soul from Gujarat who's love for music started at a very early age. Over the years she has conquered many dance floors with her unforgettable approach to music and it is her true belief that music connects people globally, no matter who they are, where they're from or what genre they love.

Her sounds are lusty and sweeping, interwoven with dreamy melodies and backed by the kind of bass line that instantly grips you! Her energetic and emotional shows capture the audience, and as her energy flows off the console she delivers in terms of technique and tune, providing an overall performance package & creating magic.

Hailing from Mexico & now residing in maximum city Mumbai - Ana Lilia is like a breath of fresh air in the Indian house/ techno scene. With a touring calendar busier than DJs far more senior - Ana is taking the exponentially growing underground scene in India with a storm. She has played for revered brands such as Elrow & shared stage space with DJs such as Dubfire, Claptone,Deborah de Luca, Sidney Charles, Trikk, Dusty Kid, SHADED, Coyu, Mark Fanciulli, Juliet Sikora to name a few.

Her sound is a perfect blend of bouncy dance floor oriented tech house laced with tribal overtones & in-your-face, no nonsense techno. Combine that with an alluring stage presence & it is a match made in techno heaven.

You know her as an actress, a model and a nature-loving free spirit! We've grown up watching her on our television screen in popular shows like Hip Hip Hooray and Left Right Left and it's now time to watch her live as she brings her mesmerising voice to the stage as the MC for SulaFest 2020.

ZEEQAR

Born and brought up in the coastal state of Goa, Zeeqar got his early musical influences from bands like Pink Floyd, The Doors and Led Zeppelin. Thanks to his proximity to the Goan clubs and bars, known for their parties and music, his influences shifted slightly and he took up the decks at the age of 16. Electronic music artists like Bonobo, Amon Tobin and Deadmau5 formed his new musical influencers and he started to compose and make his own productions which started as progressive house and moved on to melodic house and techno.

SINDHI CURRY

If you're looking for some fresh, warm vibes infused with funky grooves then catch Pramod Sippy a.k.a. Sindhi Curry at SulaFest this year. A self-taught DJ, his musical journey started at the young age of 14 when he would DJ at parties for friends and at impromptu gatherings. Over the years his sound has evolved and it is now a true testament to the diversity in music and its evolution through time. Pramod has also been an integral part of the entertainment industry, notably as the co-founder of The Bombay Elektrik Project and The Hive. Performing at multiple venues across the country, he counts his musical influences as Chicago-House, Disco, Funk, Soul and Detroit Techno and always guarantees a fun night.

SASHANTI

Alexander Sukhochev or Sashanti as he is known is a creatively gifted person adept in many art forms including journalism, photography, writing, promotion and DJing. During the twenty years of his artistic career, he became a prize-winning journalist, showcased a few of his photo exhibitions around the world and released a bestselling book in Russia about Goa named 'The Goa Syndrome'. However, through all of this, he used music as the fuel for his achievements. In 2004, he shifted his residency to Goa and along with generating a keen interest in his music, managed to dominate the local trance music scene by playing techno and house genres along with his friends. Together they created a music revolution of sorts and change the nightlife culture in the state.

Today, he is one of the most demanded artists in India and has also spent five years of his career curating the Atmasphere stage at our very own SulaFest!

MIKE AKIDA

Greek-born DJ Mike Akida started his career in 1990 by playing rock and alternative music. Over the years his sound changed and he moved to electronic music in 1992-93 and then into pure psychedelic trance in 1994-95. Through the years he has developed his chill out music style in DJ sets around the world, a sound that is heavily influenced by Indian and physical instruments and world music.

He has also been a core part of the music and advertising industry since 1994, working as an organiser and a promoter and running his own company, booking artist tours, festivals and events. Now, as Akida Promo, he is heavily involved in the production and promotion of many international music and culture festivals and as Akida Bookings he manages artist tours and booking worldwide.

The Local train

The Local Train is a Hindi rock band from New Delhi who write and produce their own music with lyrics in Hindi and Urdu. After releasing four singles over a year, they released their debut album 'Aalas ka Pedh' in 2015, followed by their second album 'Vaaqif' in January 2018. 'Vaaqif' went on to be one of the most streamed independent music albums on Apple Music India.

Today, the band is invited to perform as various shows and festivals across the country and over the past fifteen months have performed at over 135 shows.

The Spindoctor

Sanjay Meriya a.k.a The Spindoctor is a premier DJ with various skills such a beat-mixing, scratching, beat juggling, drumming, sampling and more. His musical repertoire includes all forms of hip-hop, club and house remixes, amalgamations of styles and it is music that is bound to keep you on the dance floor. He also brings his musical magic to the classroom with his courses at Audioqube, The True School of Music and Party Map DJ Academy as well as a two-month long DJ school for The Dharavi Dream Project.

Joining him at SulaFest this year will be a bunch of his friends including Indian-born, European-raised Tracy De Sa who sweeps her listeners off their feet with improvised and risky but mastered changes in rhythms and vigorous rhymes. Adding to this party is Odisha-born Samir Rishu Mohanty a.k.a Big Deal who got into the world of rap to express his agony towards his distorted sense of belongingness and the discrimination he faced because of his mixed race. His lyrics predominantly focuses on uplifting lives and inspiring people to overcome their everyday struggles. And finally, 23-year-old Poetik Justis, a multi-lingual MC who's first album 'Greatness' is an essential listen for all hip-hop enthusiasts.

SMALLTALK

An alternative band from Mumbai, smalltalk spend most of their time in the lab carrying out experiments in translating their collective life experiences into the realms of sound. With Linford D'Souza on drums, Johann Coutinho on bass and Samarth Bahl on words and guitar they put forward an experience filled with a lush palette of psychedelic and groove-filled songs.

Voctronica

Set-up by world-renowned beatboxer Shlomo (UK) and MC Testament (UK), Voctronica is India's first all-vocal ensemble. Bringing together the real power of the human voice, the band comprises of a melodious blend of beat-boxers, Indian classical, pop, blues and rock vocalists. Over the years the band has developed a sound and style that is uniquely theirs and undeniably infectious and draws from an eclectic set of musical genres like pop, folk, Bollywood, dubstep and electronica. They merge their musical sensibilities to put forth one-of-a-kind interpretations of tracks across genres and this is seen in their interactive live performances that showcase a mix of originals along with popular English and Hindi covers.

When Chai Met Toast

Formed in 2016, When Chai Met Toast is a four-piece, Neo-folk band from Cochin, Kerala. In three short years the band has become a festival favourite across the country and are constantly touring from city to city, bringing their music closer to everyone. They released their debut EP 'The Joy of Little Things' in 2017 and in 2018 they promptly released their second EP 'Believe'. Foot-tapping energy and infectious, happy music is their signature and their sounds and lyrics transcend age, genres and languages.

Jah Sun The Rising Tide (Sly)

Jah Sun is a reggae/ world-music artist whose message of hope that captured the hearts of audiences across the globe. Inspirational lyrics meet dreamy melodies and atmospheric textures to create direct beats and music that really drives his vision forward. He aspires to use an eclectic mix of musical styles to awaken in his audience the desire to meet the challenges of life and live life to its ultimate potential.

The music itself is directly influenced by Jah-Sun's life and his childhood. Growing up in a bicultural family gave him a unique perspective on life and music but also the opportunities he had to travel across the world, playing his music for people of all walks of life and meeting new cultures is what makes his sound uniquely his own.

Amphitheatre

The Amphitheatre is SulaFest’s main stage and one that has seen several artists put on some of their best performances over the years. It is a live music stage that focuses on some of the most diverse sounds from continents near and far, bringing you music that is sure to strike a chord.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Entry to the event commences at 12:30 PM.
  • This ticket admits only one person and shall be produced to exchange for a wristband.
  • Wristbands are non-transferable and must be worn at all times during the event. Wristbands removed or misplaced shall not be reissued under any circumstances.
  • Any person found to be attending the event without a valid wristband and ticket shall not be permitted.
  • Tickets once purchased shall not be refundable whatsoever.
  • Tickets shall be valid only if purchased through official agents. Tickets purchased through unauthorized agents shall not be valid and entry shall be denied to the event.
  • Person above the age of 12 years will need to purchase ticket. Persons below the age of 12 years may attend the event without purchasing a ticket but accompanied by an adult. The organizers strongly recommend NOT to bring children below the age of 12 years into the festival grounds for safety reasons. The festival does not provide facilities for young children.
  • There shall be no re-entry to festival grounds.
  • The event shall at all times be subject to Force Majeure events and for which the organizers shall not be responsible for in any manner whatsoever including without any limitation to its postponement, cancellation or changes in the schedule.
  • The event shall be subject to necessary security procedures as the organizers deem fit and which shall include checking of personal belonging and body frisking.
  • No alcohol will be served to persons below the Legal Drinking Age (LDA). Persons of LDA shall be provided with some form of authorization upon producing a valid photo ID. In the interest of the health and safety persons consuming alcoholic drinks at the event are advised to use public transport or assign a designated driver.
  • It’s not permitted for persons of the LDA to purchase alcoholic drinks for persons below the LDA. Any breach of such condition will result in removal of both from the event.
  • Artist programming and line-up is subject to change during the festival.
  • Carrying and consumption of banned articles, substances including bottled water, alcohol, cigarettes and outside food shall not be permitted at the event.
  • SulaFest is a drug-free event. Consumption and possession of any form of intoxicants will result in removal of the person consuming/carrying the same from the event and shall be handed over to the concerned authorities.
  • The organizers are not liable for any food/beverage liability claims.
  • Although the organizers shall have basic minimal first aid/medical facilities at the event, it shall not be responsible/liable for any serious ailments which may require hospitalization.
  • The organizers shall be recording the event through variety of AV means and which it may also telecast in the media. Persons attending the event hereby extend the consent to such recordings/telecast.
  • Only vendors authorized by the organizers shall be permitted to advertise/trade their goods/services at the event
  • Under no circumstances any person attending the event shall possess in any form/place any object/weapon that may have the potential to cause any bodily injury. No person attending the event shall in any manner vandalize/cause damage to any location/part of the event.
  • The organizers shall not be responsible for any theft/loss, harm, injury that may be caused to any person at the event in any manner.
  • The organizers shall in no manner be responsible for any theft/damage caused to their vehicles parked in the designated area.
  • Strobe lighting at this event may trigger epileptic fits. Likewise, the event shall use the amplified sound performances at high volumes. Persons attending the event are requested to safeguard themselves from such extreme forms of lighting/audio.
  • The organizers reserve the exclusive rights to decline entry to any person in breach of any terms and conditions of the event with or without refund of the ticket price.
  • Areas of the festival are built to capacity. Organizers reserve the rights to hold entry to certain areas within the festival to ensure a safe festival experience.
  • Persons attending the event shall abide by all the instructions of the organizers.

If you’re into music that is 120bpm or higher, then Electric Lane – our DJ stage – is most likely where we will see you. This year it will host some extremely intriguing artists, who will drop some infectious beats and top notch basslines, so be sure to check back to know more.

This year, SulaFest not only strikes the correct musical notes but also includes a range of experiences for one and all! Step into our specially curated and immersive ‘Experience Zone’ that is bound to set your spirits high (literally!). Here’s a question: What’s a music festival without some finger-licking-good food, merchandise that’ll last as memories and a selection of good alcohol? The answer is simple. It’s not very good.

GENERAL QUESTIONS

What is SulaFest?

- We’re India’s biggest Vineyard Music festival that takes place in the lush green estate of Sula Vineyards, Nashik.

Okay, I’ve bought my tickets. Now, what time should I get there?

- Gates open at 12:30pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

What is the weather usually like around SulaFest?

- It’s usually pleasant and perfect for a weekend away. We’re talking warm days and cool nights. It does get a bit chilly in the evening so be sure to pack in your favourite layer for when the sun sets!

Is SulaFest open to all ages?

- Yes, we’re open to all! However, due to the high decibel music we ask you to take precaution while bringing kids.

Will there be vegetarian food available at the festival?

- Absolutely, yes! Delicious Vegetarian treats are available and you will have a variety of cuisines to choose from.

Will there be drinks other than wine from Sula’s vineyards?

- Great question, and absolutely! There will be an array of choice available on the weekend from Rémy Martin, Mount Gay Rum, Highland Queen blended Scotch whisky, Cointreau, Budweiser, Botanist Gin, Hardys wines from Australia, Asahi Super Dry and the finest Beluga Vodka. Our beverage partners will ensure no one goes thirsty!

What other activities can I do at the venue?

- There will be wine tastings, grape stomping, wine games, body art, shopping 25 amazing food stalls to explore! You can also choose to wine, dine and relax at our Tasting Room, RASA - the fine dining Indian restaurant or Little Italy. Keep checking our website for more activities that we will add closer to the date.

Will there be first aid on site?

- We will have a first aid counter with trained staff on site. Paramedics will also be present in case of emergencies.

Will there be a festival map available so that I can plan my day and not miss any of my favourite acts? Plus, I can figure out how to get to all the delicious food stalls?

- Yes, we will have festival maps available on the days. Make sure to pick one up on your way in/ if you’re an eco-warrior, you can check our website closer to the day for the downloadable version.

TRANSPORT AND PARKING

Will there be parking at the festival site?

- Yes, we will have sufficient paid parking available at the site. The parking lot is walking distance from the festival site. However, due to the number of people we expect, parking spots can fill up quickly and so we encourage you to carpool or leave your car behind and go green this year!

Where can I buy tickets for SulaFest 2020?

- Tickets for SulaFest 2020 are available online at Insider.in or you can pick them up in-person from Sula vVineyards, in Nashik.

What does each ticket include?

- You ticket will give you access to the festival which will include the Amphitheatre (main stage) and Electric Lane (EDM stage). In addition to this, you will also gain access to the exciting food, drink and merchandise stalls at the festival. And finally, your ticket will allow you have a chilled-out, fun-filled weekend!

Are VIP tickets available?

- Yes! However, since they are special tickets, they are available in a limited quantity only.

What does a VIP ticket include?

- VIP tickets will give you the best view of the stage and a bunch of other perks and surprises.

I booked tickets for Sunday, 2nd February, but I’d like to now come on Saturday, 1st February. Can I switch them?

- Unfortunately, we won’t be able to do this. Tickets for Saturday and Sunday are separately coded and so switching them around is not possible. Why not come for both days instead! :)

Can I buy tickets on the day?

- Yes, absolutely! Tickets to the festival will be available at our ticketing counter on the day. However, these tickets will be priced slightly higher than regular tickets.

VIP

What does the VIP ticket include?

- Apart from giving you the best view of each stage, the VIP ticket includes: lots of freebies and luxuries, for more info please check Patym Insider.

How do I get my hands on this VIP ticket?

- VIP tickets are available on Paytm Insider and one can collect them in person at Sula Vineyards, Nashik.

By Road

By Train

Nashik has its own railway station and there are several trains that run to and from the station on a daily basis. The rail line connects Nashik to several other Indian cities and Mumbai is about a 2-2.5hr journey. Local buses and auto-rickshaws can be found easily outside the station.

By Flight

The closest airport to the venue is Nashik Airport (with less frequency of direct flights) and Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, which is about 180km away from Nashik. The journey takes between 4-5 hours so please plan accordingly and drive safely on the highways. Please also make sure you check your flight day and time correctly. Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is a busy airport and sees several flights (international and domestic) land daily. Once you’re in Mumbai, you can book intercity cabs that will bring you to the venue. Alternatively, you can also hire a car for the weekend and drive yourself down.
